Obituary

Wilmar 'Willie' Toro, beloved husband of Ines; loving father of Nelson and Marcela; cherished 'Tata' of Maya and Alex; dearest brother of Edith, Harold, Oriana, Myriam, Francisco, Fernando, Sandra, Viviana, Cristian, Ginia and the late Gladys, Nelson and Carlos; dear uncle of many.

Willie immigrated to Chicago from Santiago, Chile in 1961. By 1965 he was serving the US Army in Vietnam. Upon returning to Chicago, he worked while attending DeVry Technical Institute where he proudly graduated and held a career as an electrician for 35 years. He met and married his wife, Ines, and had two children.

He was proud of his military service although he rarely spoke of his experience. He was serious about his work but knew when to quit. He was a soft-spoken man who loved to tell stories especially ones that ended in laughter. Very quick witted, he was always ready with a joke. He loved to travel, especially road trips, and enjoyed taking his family on new adventures. He excelled at DIY home projects - knocking down walls, rebuilding, rewiring, etc. – relishing the quest to make improvements. He loved the United States, but never forgot his homeland (Viva Chile!). He loved good food, good Chilean wine and large gatherings. He was devoted to family, friends and neighbors and will be sadly missed.
