Obituary

Thomas Kean, age 79, beloved husband of 57 years to Joan; loving father of Laura (Harry), Sharon, Rev. Brian, Lisa (John), Edward and the late Tom Jr.; cherished grandpa of 8; proud great grandpa of 2 and dear brother of the late Katherine.

Tom Kean was devoted to his family and to his faith.  He was the proud father of six children, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  He was extensively involved over the years with his parish church, Mary Seat of Wisdom, where he had been a parishioner for over fifty years.  He was also involved with the local Park Ridge community.

Tom ran his own real estate business, American Tradition, for thirty-plus years.  Before entering the real estate field in his mid-thirties, Tom worked as a public accountant, specializing in cost accounting.   At different periods in his life, Tom had been the owner and manager of a boarding house, a gas station, and a limousine service.  In addition to his career, Tom was involved with social justice work through his parish and the community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Cook County Bail Bond Project, and the Blood Donor program, donating over the years the maximum level of blood allowable before being limited to platelet donations.  He had been a past president of the Park Ridge Library Board, a member of the U.S. Armed Services Draft Board, the Kiwanis Club, the Elks Club, and a notary public.  Tom had also taught real estate classes at Wright College.

Tom loved spending time with his family and his many friends.  Those who knew him appreciated his intelligence and good humor.

Most recently, Tom was enjoying his retirement after a successful career in real estate management and home sales.  He was happily married to his wife Joan for 56 years, whom he cared for in their Park Ridge home, after she became disabled through illness several years ago.

Tom's joy for life, his deep faith in a loving God, and his love for family and friends will be missed.  Visitation Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M.  Funeral Prayers Monday, 9:15 A.M. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W.
