Obituary

Susan Koralik, devoted mother of Adam and Kathryn Koralik. Loving sister of Robert (Irene) Koralik and the late Dick (Dorothy) and Don (Vivien) Koralik. Cherished aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews. Second mom to many and friend to everyone.

A native of Chicago, Susan graduated from Steinmetz High School and Miami of Ohio. As she told it, her father only let her go away to college because a girlfriend of hers would also be going. When the girlfriend failed to get in, he decided to let Susan go anyway.

Susan had a long and illustrious career in benefits consulting at Hewitt Associates. She was a female business leader in the early 70s when opportunities were more limited than today. Told that "girls can't be account managers" she persevered to become one of the company's first female account managers and partners, paving the way for other women.

In her retirement, Susan traveled the world. A "Vanishing Cultures" trip, which included stops in Papua New Guinea and Timbuktu, inspired her to many years of adventure travel. She initially traveled with the Global Volunteers organization, teaching English as a second language in The Cook Islands and Viet Nam. Teaching ESL became a second passion, both in other countries and the U.S. She also took pleasure trips to Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Antarctica and Peru. Susan made friends wherever she went. Many of the friends she made visited her in the U.S. and invited her to milestone events in their countries.
