Solveig Mathiasson, 83, of Lake Villa, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023. Loving mother of Kurt (Esperanza) and Kristina (the late Dell); proud grandmother to five; adoring great grandmother to three; and fond sister.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kurt A. Mathiasson.

Solveig was a proud immigrant from Sweden, having moved to Chicago in the Andersonville neighborhood in 1963. Their lives flourished in Chicago where they opened two Swedish cuisine restaurants, as well a Swedish contracting company, a nursery school, and The Swedish American Museum on Clark Street. Anywhere Solveig went, she was eager to help those around her and cook for them.

Kurt would come up with the ventures for them to undergo, and Solveig would be there to put the plans in motion. She never liked to talk about herself and their accomplishments, she was very humble.

Solveig lived by example and through faith in Christ, and those who had the honor of knowing her were better because of it.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Church, 5437 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640. Interment held privately.
