Ronald Marshall Rognstad, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Born on March 13, 1942, Ron lived a life defined by curiosity, service, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jerline, building a life filled with love, learning, and countless cherished memories.

Ron was the proud father of Denise Rognstad, Michelle (Michael) Chase, Jill Rognstad, and Jeff (Nichole) Rognstad. He was a loving grandfather to Autumn and Summer, who brought him immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind many cousins and a wide circle of friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and conversation.

A proud United States Army veteran, Ron carried his love and respect for military service throughout his life. Following his service, he enjoyed a successful career as a software engineer, combining his analytical mind with a lifelong fascination for technology. His interests extended into photography and optics, and he was never one to stop learning. Ron was a lifelong student who continually enrolled in college courses simply because a subject sparked his curiosity. He believed there was always something new to discover.

Family was the center of Ron’s world. Whether relaxing in the gazebo, sharing stories, or simply enjoying time together, he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his remarkable ability to strike up conversations on the most unexpected topics. No matter the setting, Ron always seemed to have an interesting fact, thought-provoking question, or random subject ready to share, making every conversation memorable.

Ron will be remembered for his inquiring mind, sharp intellect, humor, and the genuine interest he took in the people around him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched through friendship, conversation, and kindness.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
