Richard W. Moellering Sr., age 77. Beloved husband of 49 years to Susan; loving father of Richard Jr. born 1969 (Shelley), Sharon Aliaga born 1974 (Martin), and Stephen born 1985; proud grandfather of Amanda Nicely, Gabriel Aliaga, and Raphael Aliaga; cherished brother of Harold Moellering (Elizabeth Hart); dear uncle, cycling friend, and friend of many.

Richard was born in 1940 in Fort Wayne, IN to Henry and Alma Moellering. Richard's primary education was at St Paul's Lutheran School in Fort Wayne, IN graduating in 1955. Richard attended High School at Concordia High Fort Wayne, IN graduating in 1959. Richard attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN for undergraduate studies, Earning a Bachelor of Science, B.S.C.E. degree in Civil Engineering in 1963 and a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Business in 1964. During his years in school, Richard was very active in athletics and excelled at Cross-Country, Track & Field, and Wrestling.
Upon graduation from Valpo, Richard worked as a Rolling Mill Forman at Republic Steel of Chicago, IL for three years to gain real-world Industrial working experience. Richard then attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN for graduate studies earning an M.B.A. Degree in Business in 1969, where he also played team rugby. Upon graduation from Indiana University, Richard worked in computer sales for I.B.M. In Chicago, IL for two years. Shortly afterward, Richard pursued his interest to own his own business. He purchased Hedges Manufacturing and solely led the company as Owner, President, and C.E.O. for 28 years. During this time Richard also served as President of the Ravenswood Industrial Council of Chicago, IL.

During his years as President of Hedges Manufacturing and into his retirement years, Richard developed a keen interest in cycling, in both road racing and velodrome/track disciplines. Richard trained diligently as a cyclist, becoming a Senior Olympics champion and winning or medaling in many 20 and 40 Km races in the Senior age division. This also included just recently in 2017 earning a U.S. National top-10 ranking in cycling at the Senior Olympics competition held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
