Peter G. Flensborg, 80, loving son of the late Marguerite and the late Howard; devoted father of Karin Flensborg, loving father figure to Noah Keller, and former husband of Karin’s mother, Ha Flensborg; loving brother of Nancy (the late James) Jack, the late Daniel Flensborg, the late David Flensborg, and the late Loren Flensborg; loving uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews; and helpful and kind neighbor and loving friend of many.
Peter lived life with a deep appreciation for the world around him. He was born and raised on the northwest side of Chicago. He graduated from William Howard Taft High School, and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As a master carpenter, he took great pride in his work, which was evident in all that he built. He had a passion for international travel, especially journeys to Africa and Vietnam, where he delighted in experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. Peter was a proud member of the Vasa Order of America, Hagar Lodge 721. He loved the thrill of watching NASCAR and Indy 500 racing, the freedom of bicycling, the enjoyment of nature on his scooter along Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, and the simple pleasure of sharing good beer with good company. Some of his most treasured memories were made traveling in his motor home with family, and the friends he had over the years were very dear to him. Above all else, Peter’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a father. He often said that “the brightest light of my life is Karin,” a sentiment he lived every day through his love, devotion, and pride in her.
