IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul J.
Selinger, Jr.
January 9, 1953 – December 5, 2021
Due to growing concerns of the increase in Covid cases, Paul's Funeral Mass has been cancelled and his interment will be held privately. A Memorial Mass will be planned for in the future when it is safer for everyone to come together.
Paul James Selinger Jr., 68, died peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in Livonia, Michigan. Paul was born in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1953 to Paul James Selinger and LeBertha Margaret Mayone Selinger. Despite being born with Down's syndrome, Paul enjoyed life, loved his family, friends, and care givers, and inspired us all to be our best selves.
Paul found immense joy in music and dance, sometimes breaking into a happy jig spontaneously. He danced in his cowboy boots at many parties over the years, especially the annual Community Choices Christmas party. At home his tunes were available at the touch of a big red button, compliments of Paul's brother-in-law Mike.
Like any true member of the Selinger clan, Paul appreciated good food. Picnics in the park and restaurants where he could people-watch doubled the fun. Hugs were a part of the experience too, with unsuspecting strangers joining in the merriment!
Paul worked at various jobs over the years, including as a Community Work Opportunities team member delivering Meals on Wheels. He lived in the same house in Canton, MI for 33 years with housemates, John and Andy, where the staff of Community Choices lovingly cared for him.
Paul is survived by his sisters Olivia Selinger (Joe Alexander), Marilyn Baumer (Mike) and Martha Hayden (Trey) and his nieces, nephews, and grandnephews Alex (Vi), Craig, Jeremy (Carolina), Elizabeth, Margaret, Faith, Jacob and Cameron.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Friends of CLS 35425 Michigan Ave., W. Wayne, MI 48184 or to The Arc - Michigan 1325 S. Washington Ave., Lansing, MI 48910
