IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ninos J.
Joseph
December 9, 1954 – August 18, 2024
Ninos Jonathan Joseph, 69, passed away on August 18, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. He was born in Baghdad, Iraq to Jane & Jonathan Joseph on December 9, 1954, the second of 4 children. His family immigrated to America in August of 1958, first living in Modesto, California before moving to Chicago, the place he was to call home for the rest of his life.
Ninos graduated from Mather High School in 1972. Shortly after, he lost his mother, Jane (1973), and his father, Jonathan (1975). Ninos handled these turbulent and difficult years with grace, not only helping raise and guide his younger sisters through middle and high school, but also managing to attend the University of Illinois-Chicago. He received his Bachelor's in Biochemistry in 1978; his hard work, perseverance, and selflessness continue to be an inspiration to his family and friends today.
Ninos was passionate about research and development in the medical field. He began a long and exciting career in 1978, devoting over 30 years to the Department of Anesthesiology at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. As a research associate, he authored 122 publications in peer-reviewed and CME journals, receiving nearly 1400 citations and 2000+ reads. His academic and research interests included Anesthesiology, Sleep Medicine, Traumatology, Critical Care Medicine, and Pain Medicine. In 2011, he joined the team at ChicagoENT as a research consultant, conducting clinical trials. Most recently, he was enrolling patients in a clinical study of early-onset tinnitus researching an investigational new drug.
Ninos married Juliet Benyat in 1993, and together, they raised their two children, Marcele and Noel, in a home filled with love, laughter, books, baseball, and good food. Always an avid reader, Ninos leaves behind a library to be inherited by his daughter Marcele, who shares his love of books. As a little league coach, Ninos spent countless hours hitting ground balls in the alley, shaping his son, Noel, into the best infielder he possibly could while debating the merits of the Chicago Cubs. Famous for his quick temper, it is no surprise Ninos almost missed the Cubs winning the World Series as he had stormed off during the rain delay, only to be coaxed back into the room just in time to watch. He loved to spend time with his family at the dinner table every night, a tradition his wife Juliet insisted on keeping no matter how busy the family was. Ninos always put his family first. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father.
Ninos was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth White (Tim). Ninos is also survived by his brother, Dr. Ashur Joseph (Diane), his sister, Eleanor Thorn (Richard), and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins who will miss him deeply.
