Liz Greenhill, nee Jefchak, A beacon of love, devotion, and kindness, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023. She was a beloved wife, cherished mother, devoted grandmother, dear sister, loving aunt and a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Liz's profound impact on the lives of others, both as an educator and a dedicated community member, will forever be remembered and cherished.
Liz shared an incredible bond with her adoring husband of 50 years, Woody Greenhill. Their love was an inspiration to all who witnessed it, a shining example of commitment, support, and unwavering devotion. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth, laughter and endless love.
As a mother, Liz poured her heart and soul into raising her children: Katie (Lance) Mainwaring, Libby (Corey) Chase, Forrest "Chip" (Rebecca) Greenhill and Annie (Kevin) Demaline. Her unwavering love, guidance and encouragement helped shape them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Liz's children were her pride and joy, and she embraced her role as a mother with boundless grace and devotion.
Liz's role as a grandmother brought immeasurable joy to her life. Affectionately known as Gigi, she treasured her role in the lives of her grandchildren: Addison, Forrest, Millie, Walter, Hunter, Harland, Ty, Joey, Genevieve, Harriet and Cooper. Gigi's love knew no bounds, and her presence filled their lives with laughter, warmth and unconditional love.
A dear sister to Robert Jefchak, Danny (Carolyn) Hamilton and Claudia (Chris) Davisson. Liz was also a beloved sister-in-law to Carol (Tom) Schneider, Lorna (Mark) Benkendorf and Verne Greenhill. Her warm and welcoming nature extended beyond her family, as she embraced her role as a sister-in-law with open arms, providing them with unwavering support, comfort, and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Liz's dedication to education spanned over 30 years, leaving an indelible mark on the countless lives she touched. As a profound educator, she inspired her students to reach for their dreams, instilling in them a love for learning and a belief in their own potential. Liz's impact as a teacher will continue to ripple through the lives of those she taught, forever shaping their futures.
Liz was a proud member and contributor of numerous clubs and organizations that aimed to make a positive difference in the world. Her commitment to service and philanthropy was evident in her active involvement with The P.E.O. Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization), the Daughters of the American Revolution, the 20th Century Club, the National Panhellenic Conference and St. Patrick's Guild at Mary, Seat of Wisdom. Liz's passion for giving back and helping others was an inspiration to all those around her.
Beyond her dedication to education and philanthropy, Liz possessed a creative spirit. Her love for quilting and sewing allowed her to express herself artistically and create beautiful pieces that will serve as lasting reminders of her talent and passion.
Liz's departure from this world leaves a tremendous void that will be felt deeply by all who knew her. Her infectious laughter, genuine kindness, and unwavering love have touched countless lives, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and grace. While our hearts ache with the loss of such an extraordinary woman, we find solace in the knowledge that Liz's spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear.
Today, we celebrate the remarkable life of Liz Greenhill. She exemplified the qualities of a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, dear sister, and loyal friend. May her spirit continue to guide and inspire us as we carry her memory in our hearts. Liz's legacy of love and service will forever be etched in our souls, and she will be deeply and forever missed.
Memorial Visitation, Friday, June 9th from 4 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary from 4 to 5 p.m. Funeral Prayers, Saturday, June 10th, 10:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home 820 Talcott, Park Ridge with a procession to Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church, Mass to begin at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Maryhill Cemetery, Niles, IL. To honor Liz, ladies, please wear your favorite hat!
