Obituary

Kevin R. Cox, 68, passed away on September 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Born on July 30, 1957, Kevin grew into a man known for his strong will, sharp mind, and an uncommon kindness that reached anyone in need. He was always the person people could count on—whether it was family, friends, neighbors, or even strangers. He was the one to call in an emergency, and without hesitation, he showed up ready to help.

Kevin devoted much of his life to giving back. He supported countless animal charities, participated in Toys for Tots, and never missed a ride that went toward a good cause. He often did work for free for those he loved, always putting others ahead of himself.

Professionally, Kevin had an unmatched knowledge of construction and facility management. He helped build and maintain homes, commercial buildings, and swimming pools across Chicagoland—many of which remain in use today, including some of the city's notable downtown hotels. His skill and dedication were evident in everything he touched.

At home, Kevin was more than a provider; he was a role model and best friend. His daughter, Katelyn, remembers not only looking up to him but also imitating him as a child—carrying an old beeper and pretending a pretzel was a cigar just to be like her dad. To her and to her friends, Kevin wasn't just a father—he was a hero. The whole neighborhood knew him as someone tough but fair, who tested people before letting them into his circle. But once you were in, his loyalty was unshakable.

Kevin had a love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, happiest when grilling steaks and portobello mushrooms with plenty of butter, or sharing fresh popcorn shrimp with family and friends. Camping, hiking, and setting off the biggest fireworks were part of his way of celebrating life and bringing joy to those around him.

Above all, Kevin will be remembered as a man who gave more than he ever asked for, who stood strong for the people he loved, and who made life better for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was the best father Katelyn could have ever asked for, and his memory will live on in her heart—and in the many lives he touched.
