Kathleen Olive Friedberg ( nee Harpley ) of Park Ridge, Illinois, was born December 11, 1920 in Great Yarmouth, England. She grew up in the village of Acle where she had wonderful memories of picnicking in the countryside with her brothers. As a young woman, she joined the Women's Royal Air Force. Working with radar for air traffic control, she operated the radio, bringing fighter pilots safely down. At a dance, she met her husband, Charles L. Friedberg, and moved to the United States to be with him. She was a strong spirited, genuine person with a passion for reading and learning, a good sense of humor, a source of strength and wisdom to her children. Kathleen was the original "tiger mom", not in terms of being demanding with expectations for worldly success, but with her fierce devotion to teaching her daughters the importance of integrity, education and family and with her ferocious support, protection and love for her husband, the late Charles L; she is survived by her three children, Geraldine (Daryl) Tarbutton, Ann (Robert) Brown, Penelope Friedberg and three grandchildren: Whitney Tarbutton, Morgan Tarbutton and Annelinda Friedberg.
