IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Hagenauer,
Jr.
September 29, 1947 – October 2, 2021
Joseph Hagenauer, Jr., age 74, passed away at the Alexian Brothers Hospice on October 2, 2021, from Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor.
Joseph was a long-time companion and the beloved husband of 15 years of Carole Janson. He was a fond brother of Lois Hagenauer, a devoted son of the late Myrtle and Joseph Hagenauer, caring for his parents and their home as they aged. He is also survived by three daughters and one son-in-law from a previous marriage, as well as one grandson.
Joseph was educated in Lutheran schools and was employed in Management and Sales.
He was a proud veteran in the U.S. Navy, like his late father. During the Vietnam War, Joe was stationed in Cyprus and Guam, where he worked in Radio Communications.
Joe was an avid fan of baseball and the Chicago Cubs and had many hobbies, including: gardening, fishing (and we are confident that St. Peter will share his favorite fishing locations in Heaven with Joe), golf, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, and cooking (especially hundreds of holiday cookies and Mediterranean meat balls).
Joe had a good heart, always caring about the needs of others rather than his own. Even as a youngster and a swift runner, he would usually win races at church picnics. Rather than choose a toy for himself, he always selected something for his mother … like a set of three aluminum bowls for her kitchen … but the large bowl was great for popcorn!
Joe had a keen mind and was able to solve numerous problems, particularly relating to household malfunctions.
We will miss Joe's quiet ways, but we know that his pain is now over and that he is resting peacefully. He will always be loved and will always be living in our hearts until we are together again.
His Memorial Service will be private, and he will be inurned at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
Remembrances in Joseph's name can be made to –
Amita Health Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, 800 Biesterfield Road, Building 5, Suite 120, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, and can be sent to the attention of Emily Westermeyer (847-593-8593).
Joseph's family wishes to acknowledge and thank the caring team of the Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
