Obituary

John Andrew Photopulos, 73, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved son of the late Andreas and Mary (nee Pikoulas). John was the youngest of three, survived by his adoring sisters Angeline Variames (the late Steve), Katherine Mitzenmacher (late Allen), and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Joan Manos. John was known as 'Photo' by many, most notably by his cherished wife, Roula Photopulos (nee Manos). Together, they raised three children, Maria Photopulos, Andrew Photopulos (Christine), and Georgia Photopulos (Pete Szewczyk). John adored his granddaughter, Emily Grace Photopulos whom he called his 'little girl'. Known fondly as Uncle Butch, he dearly loved his nieces, nephews, and their children. He was also a dear cousin and treasured friend to so many.

John will be remembered for his unwavering generosity and dedication to all his family, friends, neighbors and beyond, which he demonstrated in many ways – perhaps most distinctly as a host. Starting with their Wedding in 1977, John and Roula threw legendary parties. From Greek Easter to New Years Eve, Memorial Day BBQs to birthdays – these events were lively and filled with what they rejoiced in most: noise and love. A class act who never wanted the limelight, John knew what he wanted, and always gave and received respect. He quietly fought hard and left us with a framework of strength and resilience that will weather any storm.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 1 – 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott (at Cumberland), Park Ridge, Illinois.
