John J. Canella, 81, went to be with the Lord on Christmas day. He was the loving father of Salvatore (Mary) Canella, Sandra (Dennis) Pranczke, Michael (Angeline) Canella; son of late Sam Canella and Lena Vitello, brother of late Joseph Canella; beloved grandpa "Papa" of Francesca, Sofia, Isabella and Judith, Danny, Dennis, Alyssa, and Natalie, Nicole, Antonette; cherished great-grandpa "Papa" of Felipe, Alana, Gianna, David, Halo; and uncle of many nieces and nephews and cousin of many.

John was a proud United States Army Veteran and a retired banker from Cosmopolitan National Bank in Chicago of many years. He was a gentle, kind, genuine, and adoring man that always put others first. John loved his grandkids greatly, and always valued every moment spent with family. He was known for his unique laugh that everyone will remember. He was the baker of the family and everyone looked forward to his desserts (especially his eclair cake). John always spent Christmas Eve with his family, it was tradition and he never missed one in all his years. We are deeply saddened, but thankful to have one last Christmas Eve with dad.

The Memorial visitation will be on Thursday, January 5, 2023, 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with prayer service and Military Honors at 6:30 p.m. Interment Private.
