Hermenegildo "Herming" P. Sales, 83, of Park Ridge, IL died of a heart attack on March 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Marina (nee Yago); his children, Elizabeth (Benjamin) Miller, Carolina (Anastas Shkurti), and Hermenegildo Jr. (Melissa); his grandchildren, Benjamin Miller, Nathaniel Miller, Matthias Shkurti, and Maribella Shkurti; his sister, Milagrina (Eligio) Balbuena; and many nieces and nephews.
Herming was predeceased by his parents, Damian Barroga Sales and Silveria (nee Pablico), and three brothers, Antonio (Helen), Cleofas "Fernando" (Amelia), and Hipolito.
He was born April 15, 1936 in Puspus, Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, graduated from University of Santo Tomas in 1956, and received an M.D. from Manila Central University in 1964. He worked at San Lazaro Hospital and later José R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila. He moved to the United States in 1972 and married Marina in Chicago, IL in 1975. Herming then worked at Christ Hospital, Norwegian-American Hospital, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, and subsequently at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center.
In 1982 Herming moved to Park Ridge, IL, where he lived for 38 years. He had an endless thirst for knowledge, was an avid reader of periodicals and reference books, and enjoyed family celebrations, good food, and long walks. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and kept up with the activities of his four grandchildren.
Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, a small prayer service was held March 27, 2020 at Nelson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
