Gwen Hautop, nee Carlson; a devoted and beloved wife for more than fifty years to the late Bill, whom she met on a playground at Haugan Elementary School in Chicago. A loving mom to Joan (Bob) Fiske and the late Billy. Gwen was a public servant at Park Ridge City hall for decades and retired in the late 1990â??s. Years prior, she enjoyed her involvement with Washington School Playmakers. Gwen was a keen poker and bridge player; she liked the slots, too. She was an avid reader, creative wordsmith and sharp Scrabble opponent. She was a great and welcome traveling companion who loved family vacations, especially driving to Florida. She also enjoyed relaxing in her recliner and sitting on her front porch. When faced with lifeâ??s challenges, she fought them with a brave and stoic spirit. Gwenâ??s passing has left a void in the lives of family and friends; they remember her as loyal and loving; a generous and giving friend, special neighbor, warm-hearted aunt, trusted confidante. She was a good listener who was a steady and calming influence; she was insightful about things. Gwen was also good-humored, funny and could 'crack you up.' Gwen was an alumna of William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, where an endowed scholarship fund has been established in her honor. Contributions may be sent to William Woods Advancement, Gwen Carlson Hautop Scholarship, One University Avenue, Fulton, MO 65251.
