Obituary

"Gene", passed away July 14, 2014 at her home of 37 years in Palatine. Born June 12, 1917 to the late George and Mary Mullman. Beloved wife of the late James J.; loving mother of James P., Thomas G. (Barbara McKinney), and the late John P.; dear grandmother of Nicole (James) Stork and great-grandmother of Madison and Jack Kraus; cherished sister of the late Rose and George; friend to many. When her youngest son entered high school age, in the 1960's, Gene engaged in volunteer work at Evanston Hospital being named Volunteer of the Year. After 8 years of volunteering, she assumed the role of Director of Volunteers at Skokie Valley Hospital and subsequently took on the same role at Glenbrook Hospital where she remained until retiring from full time work at age 70. She worked part time an additional 10 years in the Orthopedic Surgeons Library of Evanston Hospital until the age of 80. She also held the position of President of Illinois Hospital Association of Volunteer Directors and Chicago Association of Volunteer Directors. Following her 2nd "retirement" at age 80, she traveled and enjoyed an active social life with friends and family and continued to drive until age 94. Visitation Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Nelson Funeral Home 820 W. Talcott, Park Ridge. Family and friends to meet Monday at St. Thomas of Villanova Church 1201 E.
