"Liz" Schmidt
November 4, 1945 – March 8, 2022
Elizabeth Y. Schmidt (76) of Park Ridge, born on November 4, 1945 in Germany, passed into the arms of the lord on March 8, 2022. Liz was married to the late William "Bill" Schmidt for 52 years and is survived by her children Stacey (Scott) McCormack, and Sarah Schmidt (Scott Coren) and her dearly-loved grandchildren, Jack, Riley, and Mallory McCormack, and Carter and Calvin Coren.Elizabeth immigrated to America from Germany in 1950 and along with her parents, Louis and Yolanda Varga, joined the close-knit Hungarian community on the west side of Chicago. Liz attended Luther North High School where she met her life-long love Bill in the bleachers during a school pep rally. From Luther North, Elizabeth went on to the University of Illinois and Loyola University where she earned her bachelor's degree. Liz and Bill married on September 2, 1967 at St. Luke Church on Belmont Avenue in Chicago and began a marriage centered around faith, family and true partnership that continued throughout their lives.Liz and Bill were not only partners in marriage, for over 26 years they worked together in their State Farm Agency in Niles, Illinois. Liz and Bill were most fulfilled by helping others and remaining active in their friend and faith communities. Liz was a friend to many and will be remembered fondly through colleagues, fellow Hungarian Chicagoans, Bill's ATO fraternity classmates and their families, and her cherished church community. Elizabeth's impact of friendship and genuine care and support for others will live on through all who knew her.Liz and Bill were longtime members of Edgebrook Lutheran Church and considered faith and fellowship a foundation of their lives.
