Donald R. Senf, age 95 of Park Ridge died on Monday, June 10th, 2024 at the Ascension Living Resurrection Village Life Center in Chicago. Beloved husband of the late Joan (Thompson) loving father of Donna (Tim) McParlan, David (Shannon Marting) Senf, Steven (Laura Hester) Senf, and Richard Senf.

Fond Grandfather of Ryan McParlan, Kevin (Laura) McParlan, Virginia (Giancarlo) Pesolillo, Ellen Senf, Sean (Kelly) Senf, Connor (Alexandra) Senf and Megan Senf.  Great Grandfather of William and Camille McParlan, Sofia and Jake Pesolillo.  Beloved son of the late Elmer and Florence (Krausse) Senf and dear brother of the late Marion Senf.

Don graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago and then served his country as a military police officer in Germany.  He met Joan Thompson on Waconda Lake where Joan's family rented a cottage during summers. They were married in 1951 in Chicago and shortly thereafter started their life in Park Ridge into a home they built in 1959.  Joan sadly passed away in 1989.  Don a widower, remained in Park Ridge for the rest of his life making him a 65-year resident of the community!

Don owned a neighborhood grocery store (S & S Foods) on Devon Ave in Park Ridge from the mid-1950's to early 1970's.  He then worked for Montgomery Wards (Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie and Brickyard Mall in Chicago) selling major appliances.  He retired in 1994.  Two years later he bought a lakeside house on Duck Lake in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He had vacationed in the Northwoods of Wisconsin as a child and continued the tradition with his own family hosting many family gatherings where his grandchildren from Rockford, Park Ridge, and St. Paul, MN had a grand time and many fond memories.

Lying in State, Friday, June 14, 2024 from 10 a.m. until time of Service 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5650 N. Canfield Ave., Chicago, IL 60631. Interment to follow at Acacia Park Cemetery.
