Obituary

Cecelia Morg Purcell, November 14, 1920 - August 11, 2016, of Chicago, IL went to be with the Lord August 11, 2016. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. John Purcell and her son Frederick Purcell. She is survived by nine children; Pat Purcell (Vera), Michael Purcell (Patti), Alice Coffin (Tom), Catherine Card (John), Frances Keller, James Purcell, Thomas Purcell, Sandy Menard (Gerald), William Purcell (Ornella). She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Cecelia grew up in Chicago, IL and attended Immaculata High School. She was an accomplished artist and pianist. Cecelia was a member of the First Class Women's Army Corp (WAC) during World War II. Cecelia was known to those who loved her as a caring person who always had an open door with a pot of coffee and a great conversation. She spent summers in Delavan Lake, Wisconsin, enjoying time with friends and family. Cecelia lived a long and fulfilled life. She never took for granted the gift of a large family and always kept her faith on the forefront of her life. Cecelia took great joy in telling stories and memories of times past. In her later years she took pride in passing on motherly lessons she had learned to her grandchildren as they were becoming new parents. Wrapping Christmas presents on Christmas Eve, having a cigarette watching the sunset on the Lake, pouring a cup of coffee in her kitchen to those who stopped by, holding her rosary during mass, telling stories of Wayne Ave. and Kilpatrick Ave., and passing on her German and Irish heritage are all things Cecelia held close and will be greatly missed.
