IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlota
Bran
February 12, 1929 – March 10, 2021
Carlota was the 4th child from a family of 7 children. She came from a very humble family. Carlota and her husband, Julio Sr., had 6 beautiful, cherished children: Julio Jr., Otto, Gustavo, Berta, Veronica and Liliana. She was a strong woman, caring for her family of 8 - washing clothes by hand, drying them outside and ironing, going to the market daily and cooking, taking care of their home and being careful with the money Papa made. The family moved from Guatemala City to Chicago in the late 1960's. She enjoyed watching her sons play soccer and became a fan of the sport. Mama and Papa's five grandchildren lovingly added to the family's joy: Cynthia, Carla, Carley, Cory, Liana and Karina. She helped raise several of her grandchildren who fondly remember Mama and Papa's sweet, dedicated care. Cory remembers how she waited for him after school, helping him off the bus, taking off his shoes and coat, having a snack prepared for him and listening to TV programs together. Her children's and grandchildren's friends would meet her and join the family calling her 'Mama'. She offered love, compassion and generously gave great advice about life and respect to her family. She was a dedicated homemaker and great cook, teaching family how to make her famous tamales and traditional Guatemalan dishes. She showed her love and comfort through her home-cooked meals, which were always ready when they came home. Her food nourished her family; her advice served to guide them throughout their lives. She modeled the importance of family and ensured they stayed together in life's good and life's challenging times. Mama will remain in our hearts.
Due to current restrictions, visitation and services will be private. Carlota will be laid to rest with her husband Julio Sr. at All Saints Cemetery.
