IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Camille J.
Cichon
April 29, 1927 – February 5, 2025
Camille J. Cichon, 97, loving wife of the late Frank Cichon Jr., treasured mother of of Daniel (Lillian), Joseph, Dr. Michael (Pamela), William (Beth) and John (Catherine); devoted sister of Anton, Annette, Casimir, Stanley, Betty, Miriam, Eugenia, Victoria, Natalie, and Camille cherished grandmother of 13; and great-grandmother of 17.
Camille, the youngest of 10, lived a life full of love, joy, and laughter. She was born at home, in an apartment behind her family's barbershop. She always cherished her family because of the love experienced there. At any time, she could recall vivid memories of each of them.
As a youth, 80+ years ago, she knew how to push the right buttons to simultaneously exercise her independence and upset her protective father. One story was when she would climb onto to a garage roof to avoid her dad's immediate wrath and jump from roof to roof with her dad running after her on the ground, as he yelled out her name in Polish.
She met her future husband Frank, at a roller rink in Chicago, when she was 16 years old. He was dressed in his military uniform, and he offered to pick her up after a tumble. Six years later, after he was out of the service, they wed on December 31st, 1948.
A devoted mother to 5 boys, she was known for her boundless energy, quick wit, and sharp sense of humor. It was common to find her as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, with a dozen junior high age boys in her kitchen in Cicero. As they grew, she assisted Frank, as he was the Boy Scout Master during their time in Cicero. Whether it was a holiday gathering or an ordinary visit, her home was always open, and her heart was always full. A wonderful hostess, a skilled cook, ensuring no one ever left her presence hungry. It was at that time she picked up the nick name Sunny, as many came to know her by. She was proud of each of her son's chosen careers.
Along with staying in close touch with her siblings through the years, she helped lead the Women's Auxiliary at the VFW hall in Park Ridge for several years. Dedication to military service was held in high regard in her and Frank's household.
Camille spent 20 years of her widowhood living at Brookdale Senior Living located in Oak Park, Il. There she enjoyed many years with her sister, Jean, along with all the residents and the many activities offered there. She took great pride in taking care of herself, enjoying fitness and maintaining her health throughout her life. Her love for life was as sweet as her daily indulgence in ice cream, a tradition that never wavered. She was an active member of the Catholic Masses offered there, often helping out with the music ministry.
At 95 years old, with her youngest son, John, together they enjoyed reading the book of Psalms, Proverbs and The Acts of the Apostles. Over time, after much soul searching, she developed a deeper understanding of the love Jesus had for her and wanted to put her trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross for her eternal salvation.
Camille's legacy of love, humor, and devotion to family will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
