Bernice Fortini, age 87, passed away of natural causes peacefully on Monday May 25, 2020.
Loving wife of late Robert (Bob) Fortini; beloved mother of Eileen (Kim) Morehouse, Paul (Josephine) Fortini and Jean Fortini; dear sister of Gail (Walter) Powers; fond aunt of Daniel and Kevin Powers and their families.
Bernice shared her love of reading, traveling, politics, gardening, partying and adventures with everyone. Bernice was a librarian in several schools and retired as head librarian from Resurrection High School. In the early 1970's Bernice joined the Chicago chapter of the League of Women Voters, serving on a variety of committees and on the local board. She attended regional and national meetings of the League. Bernice, along with Bob, volunteered at the O'Hare Interfaith Chapel (ushers, sacristans, Eucharistic minister, alter servers). In 2011 Bernice and Bob received the Archdiocese of Chicago Christifideles Award for their service to the Chicago Airports Catholic Chaplaincy.
Private visitation and service will be at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Road (at Cumberland) Park Ridge on Saturday May 30 th . Private interment at All Saints Cemetery follows. The family will hold a memorial luncheon at a future date.
