Testimonial....
My Mother passed away September
22, 2008. Five long months of twenty two hour days at her bedside
thru two hospitals, two nursing homes and in-home care finally
brought her peace. As an only child I had made the decision to leave
my job after 24 years to be Mom's sole caregiver and will cherish
those final precious days forever.
Exhaustion was the common
thread binding family together. Several times when told to make
final arrangements, I numbly contacted various funeral homes
regarding what needed to be done when the time came. Both parents
having been accountants left little to worry about financially or
so I thought.
The day before Mom died, I
decided it would be best to organize her life insurance, savings,
checking and/or other accounts. Disbelief, shock, panic, fear among
the many emotions manifesting themselves upon the realization Mom
had given most of her money to charity leaving a very minimal amount
to cover her final expenses. At a time which should have been
reserved for mourning a new challenge now presented itself.
Within a few moments of her
dying the nursing home asked who I wished to pick her up. Blurting
out the name of one I had contacted earlier I suddenly remembered
Nelson. Asking them to hold off until I called Nelson they agreed.
The phone call to Nelson
Funeral Home changed everything to positive within moments. After
explaining the entire situation, they assured me they would work
with me and not to worry. They arrived within half an hour to pick
up Mom and take her to Nelson. Little did they know, their
professional and quiet demeanor had a calming affect which finally
allowed me to sleep peacefully for the first time in five months.
Upon meeting with them the
following day they took the time to patiently answer questions,
explain everything we wished and suggest subtle ways we could
better manage cost without diminishing Mom's services. They helped
in every aspect again understanding our financial plight and yet not
making us feel bad or diminished by lack of funds.
The people of Nelson Funeral
Homes are compassionate, caring, understanding and most of all if
only for a few days, PART OF OUR FAMILY. We are eternally grateful.
